The Module 8 L3 Tuner is an innovative lens adapter that transforms modern digital cameras into cinematic tools with vintage film aesthetics. Designed by Module 8 co-founder Iain A. Neil, a 13-time Academy Award-winning lens designer, the L3 Tuner delivers the distinctive astigmatic characteristics of classic anamorphic lenses using spherical optics. It simulates the vertical and horizontal depth of field effects typical of vintage anamorphic glass, without introducing flares or bokeh, creating a complex off-axis character beyond simple halation or glow effects.
Seamless Integration and Compatibility
The L3 Tuner integrates directly into your existing camera rig, allowing real-time adjustment of image look and character during shooting. It eliminates the need for expensive vintage lenses or costly rehousing. The tuner is available in two mount versions: EF and PL.
- EF Mount Tuner: Compatible with Canon EF lenses from Canon, Sigma, and Tamron, supporting autofocus, aperture control, and image stabilization on Sony E Mount and Canon RF mount mirrorless cameras. Due to built-in electronics, the EF version does not support mount swapping.
- PL Mount Tuner: Supports a wide range of PL mount cinema lenses, provided the rear elements do not protrude excessively. Without electronics, the PL Tuner allows interchangeable mounts for mirrorless cameras including Sony E, Canon RF, Leica L, Panasonic L, and Fujifilm X mounts. Each PL Tuner includes a rear lens depth gauge to verify lens compatibility.

The L3 Tuner offers creative control to craft unlimited cinematic looks with variable detuning, preserving focus and image quality. It provides a cost-effective alternative to acquiring multiple vintage lenses, delivering iconic film aesthetics in a single device. Cropping footage to a 2.41:1 aspect ratio enhances anamorphic character, and pairing with modern anamorphic lenses yields an organically cinematic image.
