General Description

The Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Extreme 8K HDR is a professional broadcast and live production recorder designed for native 8K and HDR workflows. It combines the trusted reliability of HyperDeck with innovations such as space-saving H.265 codec recording, optional internal cache, 3D LUT support, and a large 7-inch 1920 x 1200 2000 nit HDR LCD with DCI-P3 100% color gamut. This device supports recording and playback in full resolution 8K using Quad Link 12G-SDI and offers extensive connectivity options for analog, SDI, HDMI, and Ethernet interfaces.

User Interface and Control

HyperDeck Extreme 8K HDR features an innovative capacitive touchscreen LCD with dedicated transport controls (play, stop, record) and a mini timeline for easy navigation through recordings. The interface includes heads-up display elements such as timecode, video standard, media status, and audio meters. Users can enable waveform, vectorscope, RGB parade, and histogram scopes directly on the screen, with HDR scope support for HDR workflows. The device supports loading and saving 3D LUTs and offers direct buttons for transport control, 3D LUT enabling, and remote control activation.

For traditional broadcast deck control, the optional HyperDeck Extreme Control can be added, providing a familiar layout with a large shuttle knob and RS-422 control for up to 8 decks. This enables integration with legacy broadcast decks and supports editing with in/out points and cross-format editing when combined with Teranex Express standards conversion.

Recording and Media

• Records native 8K up to 4320p60 using efficient H.265 codec to reduce storage costs.
• Supports ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422, ProRes 422 LT for recording and playback, and ProRes 4444 for playback with fill and key.
• Two CFast 2.0 card slots allow hot-swapping for continuous recording and support long recording times (e.g., over 8 hours at 8Kp60 on a 1 TB card).
• USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port supports external disk recording with compatible SSDs and flash drives.
• Optional PCIe M.2 NVMe cache slot eliminates dropped frames by buffering recordings when media is full or too slow.
• Media can be formatted in ExFAT or HFS+ for compatibility with Windows and Mac systems.
