The Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera is a compact Super 16mm digital film camera designed for remote operation and capturing action in challenging environments. It features a built-in expansion port with PWM and S.Bus inputs, enabling wireless control via model airplane remote controls for adjusting focus, iris, and zoom remotely. This camera supports RAW and ProRes recording formats, offers 13 stops of dynamic range, includes a global shutter, and uses a Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lens mount.
Versatile Action Camera Applications
Its small size and professional quality make it ideal for mounting on quadcopters, skateboards, helmets, or other equipment to capture extreme sports, aerial panoramas, or unique point-of-view shots. It is suitable for use as a crash cam or hidden camera on sets, delivering impressive footage that stands out.
Remote Camera Management
The camera can be operated remotely from a safe distance, which is essential when mounted in hazardous or inaccessible locations. The expansion port connects to radio control airplane receivers, allowing mapping of camera functions such as start/stop recording, focus adjustment, and iris control to radio channels. It also provides a composite video output compatible with low-cost wireless video transmitters for live monitoring of recording status, battery life, and audio levels.
Customizable and Durable Design
The camera body is constructed from lightweight, strong magnesium alloy, making it durable enough for use from underwater to high altitudes. Its size is only slightly larger than the MFT lens mount, making it one of the smallest professional digital film cameras available. Users can control the camera directly via front buttons or remotely when out of reach.
Expansion Port and Custom Remote Control
The innovative expansion port allows creation of custom remote control, power, and monitoring solutions. The included breakout cable provides access to camera functions such as LANC, power, video output, and genlock. Additionally, it offers 4 analog PWM radio remote control inputs for mapping camera functions to dials, knobs, buttons, and joysticks on model airplane remotes. For enhanced precision, an 18-channel S.Bus control input supports Futaba radio control equipment or custom embedded controllers.
Remote Monitoring Capabilities
The expansion port includes NTSC and PAL composite video outputs for connection to wireless video transmitters, enabling real-time remote monitoring of the camera’s recording. For higher quality monitoring, an HDMI output supports wireless HD video transmitters. Both composite and HDMI outputs can display overlays showing camera status, lens settings, file formats, histogram, audio meters, battery life, and more.
