The Blackmagic Teranex Mini Quad SDI to 12G-SDI converter transforms Quad Link SDI signals into a single 12G-SDI output, enabling connection of Quad Link Ultra HD equipment to the latest 12G-SDI Ultra HD devices. This allows equipment using four BNC cables to be connected via a single 12G-SDI BNC cable, simplifying integration with modern routers, switchers, projectors, and other professional video hardware.
Design and Build
Teranex Mini models feature a revolutionary chassis designed for efficient heat dissipation from the powerful 12G-SDI interface circuits. They include an internal universal power supply (90-240V), professional XLR connectors for balanced audio or AES/EBU digital audio, and ergonomic controls. The compact and durable design suits desktop use in post-production studios, instrument cabinets, or on-location setups. A unique cooling system with silent fans ensures reliable and quiet operation, even when multiple units are rack-mounted side by side using an optional 1U rack adapter.
Connectivity and Control
- Supports SD, HD, and Ultra HD video formats up to 2160p60 resolution over a single BNC cable.
- Automatic standard switching ensures compatibility with legacy SD and HD signals.
- Integrated Ethernet port enables remote management via the Converter Utility application for Windows and Mac OS X.
- Supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) for powering the device or backup power, simplifying installations.
- DIP switches allow easy setup without the optional Smart Panel.
- Optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel with rotary control, color LCD display, and buttons provides video/audio monitoring, timecode display, and signal standard information for enhanced user feedback.
Audio and Signal Processing
The audio circuitry is redesigned for extremely low noise levels (over -115 dBFS) and maximum quality. Standard XLR connectors provide secure, lockable connections for balanced audio or timecode sources. Teranex technology enables up and down conversion of video signals, automatically recalculating input signals to match output display capabilities, such as converting Ultra HD to HD for incompatible displays. Video processing uses 12-bit accuracy for minimal noise, with advanced resolution recalculation ensuring high-quality conversion between SD, HD, and Ultra HD standards. SDI inputs are re-synchronized with low jitter to support longer cable runs.
Models and Options
Teranex Mini offers six converter models: SDI to HDMI, HDMI to SDI, SDI to Analog, Analog to SDI, SDI to Audio, and Audio to SDI. Additionally, six optical interface models are available, each featuring one SDI connector and a SMPTE-compliant 12G-SDI optical module: Optical to HDMI, HDMI to Optical, Optical to Analog, Analog to Optical, Optical to Audio, and Audio to Optical.
