Becoming the first proper macro in the renowned G Master line, the Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM Lens offers outstanding image quality, a greater-than-life-size 1.4x maximum magnification, and an array of physical controls and dials to improve the close-up photography experience. The medium-telephoto prime can also serve as a general-purpose role in a photographer's toolkit with built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to benefit handheld shooting when working on location or in the studio for portraits, weddings, and more.

Advanced Close-Up Shooting

Boasting a greater-than-life-size 1.4x maximum magnification, this macro lens will deliver excellent close-up shooting capabilities.

• Minimum focus distance of 10.2cm enables maximum magnification of 1.4x with a working distance of 3.5cm.
• The lens focusing ring can be slid forwards and backwards to quickly shift between manual and autofocus modes.
• Focus distance and magnification scale are printed on top of the lens to aid photographers in more technical, manual-focus applications.
• Focus range limiter switch allows for setting ranges of 10.2-27.6cm, 19.7cm to infinity, or 10.2cm to infinity to improve autofocus speed and responsiveness.
• Support for separately available teleconverters can be used to improve maximum magnification up to 2.8x.

Autofocus and Image Stabilization

Packed with advanced lens technologies, the FE 100mm Macro comes equipped with a fast and accurate set of autofocus motors and built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization.

• Four near-silent XD linear motors power the autofocus system for speeds up to 1.9x faster than the FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS and full compatibility with the 120 fps burst shooting of the a9 III and 4K 120p shooting modes.
• Floating focus helps minimize aberrations at close-focus distances and also helps keep overall lens length to a minimum.
• Internal focus keeps a consistent lens size no matter the focus distance.
• Advanced Optical SteadyShot image stabilization has been optimized for close-up macro shooting.

Advanced Controls and Ergonomics

This lens has been designed to provide photographers with all the controls they need at their fingertips.

• Focus range limiter switch allows user to constrain focus range for speedier AF.
• Manual focus ring can be slid back and forth to switch between auto and manual focus. It also features printed distance and magnification scales.
• Physical aperture ring for quick, tactile adjustment of the aperture setting.
• De-click switch removes click stops from the aperture ring for smooth aperture adjustments during video.
• Iris lock switch will prevent the lens from being accidentally shifted from the A and manual aperture settings.
• Full-time DMF switch for turning on/off the Direct Manual Focus setting.
• SteadyShot switch turns optical image stabilization on or off.

Teleconverter Compatibility

The FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM is able to work with Sony's separately available 1.4x and 2x Teleconverters. When used, photographers and videographers will be able to achieve effective focal lengths of up to 200mm for both increased magnification or longer working distances.

• The 1.4x Teleconverter allows for a 2x maximum magnification with an effective focal length of 140mm and an f/4 maximum aperture.
• The 2x Teleconverter allows for a 2.8x maximum magnification with an effective focal length of 200mm and an f/5.6 maximum aperture.

Teleconverters also provide the added benefit of longer working distances when not operating at the lens's minimum focus. This added distance can help photographers more easily set up lighting with small subjects to avoid shadows and other distracting elements as well as allow shooters to work with skittish or sensitive subjects, such as insects, without disturbing them.
