The Tamron 35mm f/2.8 Di III OSD M1:2 is a classic wide-angle prime lens designed for Sony mirrorless cameras (E/FE mount). It features a carefully selected combination of aspherical lenses and Low Dispersion (LD) glass elements to minimize chromatic aberration and deliver superb image quality at full aperture. The lens supports Sony's in-camera automatic lens correction to further reduce image distortions.
Advanced Broadband Anti-Reflection (BBAR) coating effectively reduces veils, ghosting, and reflections, ensuring high contrast and brilliant images even in challenging lighting conditions such as low sun or concert spotlights. This results in excellent detail rendition and vibrant colors.
Autofocus and Manual Focus Features
The lens is equipped with an Optimized Silent Drive (OSD) motor that provides fast and quiet autofocus, ideal for both still photography and video recording. It supports Sony's Fast Hybrid AF system, combining contrast and phase detection for precise focusing, as well as Eye AF for automatic focus on the subject's eyes. Direct Manual Focus (DMF) allows quick manual focus adjustments without switching focus modes.
Close Focusing Capability
One of the standout features is its exceptional close focusing ability, with a minimum focus distance of just 15 cm. This enables a high magnification ratio of 1:2 (0.5x), allowing for dramatic close-up shots with a blurred background, almost like a macro lens.
Build and Handling
Despite its high optical performance, the lens is compact and lightweight, perfectly suited for mirrorless camera bodies. It features a weather-resistant construction with rubber gaskets to prevent moisture and dust ingress, making it reliable in adverse conditions. The front element has a fluorine coating that repels water, dirt, and oil, facilitating easy cleaning.
