Unitree G1 EDU U2
The G1 EDU U2 is an enhanced version of the Unitree G1 humanoid robot, designed as an advanced AI platform for education and scientific research. It is suited to research into locomotion, motion planning and human–robot interaction, and is intended for technical universities, scientific institutes and research and development teams. Its motion capabilities also make it useful for experiments, technology presentations and demonstrations. The robot retains the compact dimensions of the basic version, measuring approximately 132 cm tall and weighing more than 35 kg, while offering expanded movement capabilities. With speeds of up to 2 m/s and up to 43 degrees of freedom, depending on configuration, it can move smoothly and precisely while maintaining control of its whole body.
Natural, expressive movement
The G1 EDU U2 expands on the movement capabilities of the Basic version, enabling more realistic and fluid motion. It can run, jump, climb stairs, dance and perform martial-arts-inspired sequences, while changing positions without losing balance. Its increased number of degrees of freedom allows individual movements to be combined more smoothly and supports complex motion sequences, making the robot suitable for research, testing and presentations.
Improved stability
The EDU U2 version has three degrees of freedom at the waist, allowing more natural torso movement and precise balance control while walking, running and changing direction. Each leg has six degrees of freedom, supporting smooth weight transfer and stable movement on uneven surfaces, including stones. The robot is designed to maintain stability in confined spaces and more challenging terrain.
Expanded arm movement
The G1 EDU U2 offers up to seven degrees of freedom in each arm, supporting complex manoeuvres. It can reach objects near obstacles and work precisely in confined spaces. Powerful PMSM motors, industrial cross-roller bearings and dual joint encoders support precision, repeatability and motion control—important capabilities for research and development of advanced robotic arm systems.
Hand manipulation
The Unitree G1 EDU U2 can be equipped with the Dex3-1 three-fingered manipulator hand. It has seven degrees of freedom, with independent control of the thumb, index finger and middle finger, enabling secure grasping and precise object manipulation. Hybrid force and position control supports accurate handling of a range of objects. With the hand fitted, the robot can perform tasks such as handling a hammer and moving small parts.
3D spatial perception
The perception system combines an Intel RealSense D435i depth camera with a Livox MID-360 3D LiDAR sensor. These sensors provide data for autonomous navigation, environmental analysis and motion-trajectory planning. The robot can detect and avoid obstacles and navigate complex spaces, supporting research into perception and spatial orientation in humanoid robots.
Voice communication
The audio system includes a 5 W stereo speaker and four microphones with noise reduction and echo cancellation. It can recognise voice commands in challenging acoustic environments and reproduce audio messages clearly, supporting natural interaction during demonstrations, educational activities and experiments.
Humanoid AI platform
The G1 EDU U2 is an open platform for developing and working with artificial intelligence algorithms in real-world environments, rather than only executing pre-programmed movement sequences. It supports imitation learning and reinforcement learning, allowing new skills to be developed from observations and experience. The proprietary UnifoLM model supports AI applications across a range of tasks and scenarios. The robot is intended for research into AI-based humanoid robot development and can also serve as an intelligent assistant.
Runtime, transport and storage
The 9,000 mAh smart battery provides approximately two hours of operation per charge. A quick battery replacement system helps minimise downtime during research, teaching and demonstrations. Like other models in the G1 series, the EDU U2 folds to 690 × 450 × 300 mm for transport and storage, making it easier to move between laboratories, teaching rooms and research stations.
