Unique Macro Lens Design

The Laowa Probe 24mm f/14 is a specialized macro lens designed to capture extreme close-up images with unique perspectives, including underwater views. Its original design enables photographers to explore subjects at very close distances, revealing details not easily accessible with conventional lenses.

Compact and Functional Form Factor

Measuring 40.8 cm in length with a front optical element diameter of just 2 cm, this lens allows unobtrusive proximity to subjects. It features a large reproduction ratio of 2:1 and a minimum focusing distance of 20 mm from the front element, enabling detailed macro photography of insects, plants, and confined spaces such as inside bottles. The lens also supports infinity focus for versatile composition.

Advanced Optical Construction

The lens barrel is constructed entirely of metal and houses a complex optical system comprising 27 elements arranged in 19 groups. With a 24 mm focal length and an 85° angle of view, it captures wide-angle macro images that include environmental context and fine detail beyond traditional macro lenses. Manual focus and aperture rings provide smooth, precise control.

Integrated LED Ring Light

Due to the small front element and optical design, the lens has a minimum aperture of f/14, requiring well-lit subjects. To address this, it includes a built-in ring of nine LEDs around the front element, providing effective illumination even in complete darkness. The LED ring is powered via a micro USB port and can be connected to external power sources such as power banks using the supplied 1-meter USB cable.

Water-Resistant Front Element

The front 20 cm of the lens barrel is sealed against moisture, dust, and weather, allowing safe immersion in water for aquarium, product, or culinary photography. However, the USB port is not waterproof and must be kept dry to avoid damage.

Compatibility and Versions

This lens is available with Canon EF mount (model VE2414C) and also offered for Nikon F, Sony E, and Pentax K mounts. A Cine version with a gear ring is available for filmmakers using follow focus systems.
