Big budget Hollywood productions use anamorphic lenses to achieve the cinematic widescreen perspective. You get an aspect ratio of 2.4:1 on a 16:9 sensor. Instead of cropping the image at the top and bottom (loss of resolution), the anamorphic lenses distort the image towards the edge. During later playback or projection, corresponding equalization takes place again.
Lens characteristics such as oval bokeh, horizontal flare and shallower depth of field are considered very aesthetic by many filmmakers and are becoming increasingly popular.
The LAOWA Nanomorph lenses are the smallest anamorphic lenses for S35 cameras with a constant compression factor of 1.5 at ALL focusing points. The “Nano” stands for the extremely small and light lenses – the “Morph” stands for anamorphic.
LAOWAs patented anamorphic design
Anamorphic lenses consist of spherical elements and cylindrical elements. For professional anamorphic lenses, more effort is generally required when designing the optics. This causes high costs and the size of these lenses is usually cumbersome and also super heavy.
This is why LAOWA developed its unique patented anamorphic design. It guarantees consistent optical quality and always the same compression factor.
