It reduces the crop factor from 2x to approximately 1.4x by optically shrinking the image circle to 0.71x, effectively widening the field of view. Additionally, it increases the maximum aperture by about 1 stop, enhancing low-light performance and depth of field control.
Optical Design
Featuring a sophisticated 5-element, 4-group optical construction, the Speed Booster ULTRA improves sharpness and reduces distortion of adapted lenses. The adapter maintains electronic communication between lens and camera, supporting autofocus, image stabilization, aperture control, and EXIF data transmission. Smooth iris control is available on select Canon, Tamron SP series, and Sigma lenses, while electronic manual focus is supported for focus-by-wire lenses such as the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II.
Build and Additional Features
The adapter includes a positive-lock Canon EF lens mount for secure attachment and a weather-resistant rubber gasket to protect against dust and moisture ingress. Internal black felt flocking minimizes internal reflections, enhancing image quality. It supports Cinema EOS lenses when powered externally via a 5 VDC micro-USB supply, enabling autofocus, servo zoom, and auto iris functions. Distance and zoom data transmission are supported for compatible cameras.
For stability with larger lenses, a detachable Arca-type compatible tripod foot with a 1/4-20 thread is provided for secure tripod mounting.
