Functionality
The Blackmagic Design Teranex Mini 12G-SDI to Quad SDI converter transforms a 12G-SDI input signal into Quad Link SDI outputs, enabling connection between the latest 12G-SDI Ultra HD equipment and Quad Link Ultra HD devices. It also separates Ultra HD SDI signals into four HD SDI outputs, allowing the use of standard HD displays for video wall configurations.
Design and Build
Teranex Mini models feature a revolutionary chassis designed for efficient heat dissipation from powerful 12G-SDI interface circuits. The converters include an internal universal power supply (90-240V), professional XLR connectors for balanced audio or AES/EBU digital audio, and ergonomic controls. Their compact and durable design suits desktop use in post-production studios, instrument cabinets, or on-location filming setups.
Technical Features
- Supports SD, HD, and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60 resolution over a single BNC cable using 12G-SDI technology.
- Automatic standard switching ensures compatibility with legacy SD and HD equipment.
- Optional front panel (Teranex Mini Smart Panel) with rotary control, color LCD display, and buttons for video/audio monitoring, timecode, and signal standard display.
- Integrated Ethernet port for remote control via Converter Utility software on Windows and Mac OS X, with Power over Ethernet (PoE) support for power backup or cable elimination.
- Low-noise audio circuitry with noise levels below -115 dBFS.
- Teranex technology for up/down signal conversion, resynchronization of SDI inputs, and low jitter for extended cable runs.
- Video processing with 12-bit accuracy in the analog domain for minimal noise and high-quality resolution conversion between SD, HD, and Ultra HD.
- DIP switches for easy setup without the Smart Panel.
- Unique cooling system with silent fans for reliable and quiet operation.
- Optional 1U rack-mount adapter supports up to three converters.

Models and Variants
The Teranex Mini series includes six converter models: SDI to HDMI, HDMI to SDI, SDI to Analog, Analog to SDI, SDI to Audio, and Audio to SDI. Additionally, six optical interface variants are available, each featuring one SDI connector and a SMPTE-compliant 12G-SDI optical module.
Additional Features
The converter supports automatic conversion between 2SI (2-Sample Interleave) and Square Division formats, Level A and Level B 3G-SDI modes, and YUV or RGB color models. It supports all common video standards including 50p, 59.94p to 60p at 720p, interlaced 1080i HD resolutions, 1080p, 1080PsF, 2160p, Cinema 2K and 4K DCI standards, and 8K modes up to 4320p59.94.
Usage and Installation
The device can be placed on workbenches using rubber feet or mounted in instrument cabinets with the optional Teranex Mini Rack Shelf. The integrated power supply and PoE support simplify installation and power management.
