Teranex Mini SDI Distribution 12G Overview
The Blackmagic Design Teranex Mini SDI Distribution 12G distributes a single SDI video input to up to eight SDI outputs. It features the latest multi-rate 12G-SDI connections with full SDI re-clocking, allowing automatic switching between all SD, HD, and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60 resolution. This makes it ideal for distributing a single SDI signal to multiple devices such as monitors, switchers, and encoders.
Innovative Chassis and Design
Teranex Mini models utilize a revolutionary chassis designed to efficiently dissipate heat generated by powerful 12G-SDI interface circuits. The new design addresses previous generation issues by incorporating an internal power supply, standard XLR connectors, and ergonomic controls. Its compact and attractive design suits desktop operation in post-production studios and can also be installed in instrument cabinets. The small size facilitates use on filming locations.
12G-SDI Signal Handling and Compatibility
These converters handle 12G-SDI signals without overheating, even when multiple units are installed side by side in a rack-mount adapter. The 12G-SDI interface supports all SD, HD, and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60 over a single standard BNC cable. The technology ensures compatibility with legacy SD and HD standards, with automatic format switching.
Optional Smart Panel for Enhanced Control
An optional front panel with rotary control, color LCD display, and control buttons can replace the base panel. This Teranex Mini Smart Panel provides video and audio monitoring, time code display, and video signal standard information. It enhances user experience by offering instant feedback when setting conversion parameters, which is especially valuable in TV studio environments.
Integrated Power and Network Features
The Teranex Mini series includes integrated universal power supplies (90 - 240 V), eliminating the need for external adapters. All models feature an Ethernet interface for remote control via the Converter Utility application (Windows and Mac OS X). The Ethernet port also supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), allowing the device to be powered through the network cable, simplifying installation and providing backup power options.
Professional Audio and Connectivity
Standard XLR connectors support symmetrical audio lines, digital AES/EBU interfaces, or time code sources. The connectors feature locking mechanisms to prevent accidental disconnection. The audio circuitry is redesigned for extremely low noise levels (over -115 dBFS) and maximum audio quality.
Teranex Technology for Signal Conversion
Teranex Mini models offer high-quality up and down signal conversion. For example, an SDI to HDMI model connected to an HD TV that does not support Ultra HD will automatically downscale the input signal for display. The converters provide re-synchronization of SDI inputs and low jitter, allowing longer cable runs. Analog video processing is performed with 12-bit accuracy for minimal noise. The video resolution recalculation technology ensures maximum quality conversion between SD, HD, and Ultra HD standards.
Available Models and Optical Interface Options
There are six Teranex Mini converter models: SDI to HDMI, HDMI to SDI, SDI to Analog, Analog to SDI, SDI to Audio, and Audio to SDI. Additionally, six optical interface options are available, each featuring one SDI connector and one SMPTE-compliant 12G-SDI optical module: Optical to HDMI, HDMI to Optical, Optical to Analog, Analog to Optical, Optical to Audio, and Audio to Optical.
