Caruba Extension Tube Set Canon M-Series Aluminium
The Caruba Extension Tube Set for Canon consists of three extension tubes that can be used separately or combined. These tubes contain no optical elements, allowing you to photograph subjects larger and from a closer distance without compromising image quality. The tubes feature an aluminum base and are compatible with Canon EF-M lenses. Autofocus and TTL light metering functions continue to operate normally, though manual focusing is recommended due to the tight focus range.
Ideal for Macro Photography
Every lens has a minimum focusing distance. By placing an extension tube (also called a spacer ring) between the lens and the camera body, this minimum focusing distance is reduced. The longer the extension tube, the closer you can focus, making it perfect for macro photography or special close-ups.
How Does a Spacer Work?
A spacer ring increases the distance between the camera's image sensor and the rear element of the lens. This shortens the lens's focusing distance, enabling closer focus on the subject. Consequently, the subject is projected larger onto the sensor than without the spacer ring, effectively increasing the lens's magnification factor. The maximum magnification with a spacer ring can be calculated as:
Maximum magnification with spacer ring = lens magnification factor + (mm spacer ring / focal length)
Examples
- For an 85mm lens with a magnification of 0.13, using a 12mm extension tube results in:
0.13 + (12 / 85) = 0.22 maximum magnification. - Using a 20mm extension tube:
0.13 + (20 / 85) = 0.37 maximum magnification. - Using a 36mm extension tube:
0.13 + (36 / 85) = 0.55 maximum magnification. - Combining all three tubes (total 68mm):
0.13 + (68 / 85) = 0.93 maximum magnification.
Please note that stacking all three extension tubes results in approximately a 2-stop loss of light.
