Extension Tube Set for Pentax Q

The Caruba Extension Tube set for Pentax Q consists of three extension tubes with chrome mounts, compatible with Pentax Q lenses. These tubes can be used individually or combined to reduce the minimum focusing distance of your lens, enabling closer and larger subject capture without affecting image quality. The tubes contain no optical elements, preserving the original image sharpness. Autofocus and TTL light metering functions remain operational, though manual focusing is recommended due to the narrow focus range.

Ideal for Macro Photography

Each lens has a minimum focusing distance. By inserting an extension tube (also called a spacer ring) between the camera body and lens, this distance is shortened, allowing closer focusing. The longer the extension tube, the closer you can get to the subject, making it perfect for macro photography and detailed close-ups.

How Extension Tubes Work

An extension tube increases the distance between the camera's image sensor and the rear element of the lens. This adjustment shortens the lens's focusing distance, projecting the subject larger onto the sensor and increasing the lens's magnification factor. The maximum magnification with an extension tube can be calculated as:

Maximum magnification = lens magnification factor + (extension tube length in mm / lens focal length in mm)

Examples:

• For an 85mm lens with a magnification factor of 0.13, using a 12mm extension tube results in a magnification of 0.22 (0.13 + 12/85).
• Using a 20mm tube increases magnification to 0.37 (0.13 + 20/85).
• A 36mm tube yields 0.55 magnification (0.13 + 36/85).
• Combining all three tubes (total 47mm) results in a magnification of 0.68 (0.13 + 47/85).

Note: Using all three tubes stacked causes approximately a 2-stop loss of light.
