Product details

Optical Features

  • Advanced 5-element/4-group optical design incorporating ultra-high index tantalum-based optical glass by Caldwell Photographic (USA) for extraordinary optical performance.
  • Improved corner sharpness, reduced distortion, and minimized vignetting.
  • Increases maximum aperture by 1 stop, achieving a maximum output aperture of f/0.9.
  • Makes lenses 0.71x wider, effectively reducing crop factor on APS-C mirrorless cameras.
  • Enhances MTF (modulation transfer function) for improved detail resolution.

Electronic Features

  • Supports autofocus with speed adjusted for shorter focal length and brighter aperture.
  • Focal length and aperture information are adjusted and recorded in EXIF data.
  • Supports image stabilization (IS) lenses and Video Digital IS on compatible camera bodies.
  • Stores EXIF data (lens name, focal length, maximum/minimum aperture) for one manual lens in the adapter.
  • LED indicator displays communication status between lens and camera.
  • Powered by the camera body; no external power source required for most lenses.

Mechanical Features

  • Detachable tripod foot compatible with Arca Swiss, Markins, and Photo Clam ball heads.
  • Internal flocking reduces reflections inside the adapter.
  • Rubber gasket protects EF-M mount connection from dust and moisture.
  • Constructed from aluminum alloy and brass with chromium plating for durability.
  • Satin surface finish for a professional look and feel.

Performance and Compatibility

The Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x effectively reduces the crop factor of APS-C mirrorless cameras (such as Canon EOS M series) from 1.5x to approximately 1.07x. It is optimized for use with virtually all full-frame SLR lenses regardless of exit pupil distance, including professional-grade f/2.8 zoom lenses (e.g., Canon/Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8), transforming them into faster, wider lenses (e.g., 17-50mm f/2.0 and 50-142mm f/2.0 equivalents). High-speed prime lenses like a 50mm f/1.2 become approximately 35.5mm f/0.9 with excellent contrast and resolution across the frame.

Compatible Lenses

  • Canon EOS M series cameras
  • Canon EF-mount lenses
  • Canon EF extenders (teleconverters)
  • Carl Zeiss EF-mount lenses (see notes)
  • Sigma EF-mount lenses (see notes)
  • Tamron EF-mount lenses (see notes)
  • Tokina EF-mount lenses (see notes)
  • Contax N mount lenses modified to Canon EF by Conurus
  • Contax 645 NAM-1 adapter modified to Canon EF by Conurus

Unsupported Lenses and Notes

  • Canon EF-S lenses do not fit; some may be modified at user risk.
  • Third-party APS-C lenses only work with cropped 4K video mode on EOS M50; insufficient coverage for stills or full HD video with Speed Booster.
  • Lens correction features such as peripheral shading, chromatic aberration, and distortion are not supported.
  • Focus confirmation chips (e.g., Dandelion) are unsupported.
  • M42 screw mount adapters may damage the Speed Booster and/or camera if improperly made.
  • Stacking non-Metabones/non-Conurus adapters is not supported; some manual focus lenses with rear protrusions require modification to avoid damage.
Additional Notes on Aperture Reporting

For fast lenses (faster than f/1.4), the camera displays the pre-boost aperture rather than the boosted aperture. For example, an EF 85mm f/1.2L lens attached will show f/1.2 on the camera, but the physical combined aperture with the Speed Booster is approximately f/0.85. Slow lenses report the boosted aperture directly.
