Ideal for Macro Photography
This three-piece extension tube set allows you to get closer to your subject by placing spacer rings between your Nikon lens and camera body. These hollow spacer rings contain no optical elements, preserving all automatic camera functions while increasing the magnification of your lens. The tubes can be used individually or combined to achieve greater magnification and closer focusing distances.
How Extension Tubes Work
Extension tubes increase the distance between the camera's image sensor and the rear element of the lens, shortening the minimum focusing distance and enabling closer focus on subjects. This results in a larger projected image on the sensor, effectively increasing the lens's magnification factor. The maximum magnification with an extension tube can be calculated as:
Maximum magnification = lens magnification factor + (extension tube length in mm / lens focal length in mm)
Example Calculations with an 85mm Lens (0.13x Magnification)
- With 12mm tube: 0.13 + (12 / 85) = 0.27x magnification
- With 20mm tube: 0.13 + (20 / 85) = 0.37x magnification
- With 36mm tube: 0.13 + (36 / 85) = 0.55x magnification
- With all three tubes combined (68mm): 0.13 + (68 / 85) = 0.93x magnification
Important Note
Using all three extension tubes stacked results in approximately a 2-stop loss of light, which should be considered when setting exposure.
