The Caruba Extension Tube Set is designed for Olympus and Panasonic Micro Four Thirds (MFT) cameras. It includes two extension tubes that can be used individually or combined to reduce the minimum focusing distance of compatible lenses, enabling closer and larger subject photography without any optical elements that could degrade image quality. The tubes feature a chrome mount and maintain full compatibility with autofocus and TTL light metering functions, although manual focusing is recommended due to the narrow focus range.

Ideal for Macro Photography

Every lens has a minimum focusing distance. By inserting an extension tube (also known as a spacer ring) between the camera body and the lens, this minimum focusing distance is reduced, allowing you to get closer to your subject. The longer the extension tube, the closer you can focus, making this set perfect for macro photography and special close-up shots.

How Extension Tubes Work

An extension tube increases the distance between the camera's image sensor and the rear element of the lens. This adjustment shortens the lens's focusing distance, allowing closer focus on the subject and projecting a larger image onto the sensor. The magnification factor of the lens increases accordingly and can be calculated with the formula:

Maximum magnification with spacer ring = lens magnification factor + (extension tube length in mm / lens focal length in mm)

Magnification Examples

• For an 85mm lens with a base magnification factor of 0.13:
• With a 12mm extension tube: 0.13 + (12 / 85) = 0.22
• With a 20mm extension tube: 0.13 + (20 / 85) = 0.37
• With a 36mm extension tube: 0.13 + (36 / 85) = 0.55
• Combining both tubes (total 26mm): 0.13 + (26 / 85) = 0.43

Note: Using stacked extension tubes results in approximately 2 stops of light loss.
