NiSi Athena Prime Cine Lens Series
The NiSi Athena Prime Cine lenses cover a focal length range from an ultra-wide 14 mm to 85 mm, encompassing both ultra-wide and portrait focal lengths. This range provides exceptional versatility, making them ideal for various shooting scenarios and capturing a wide variety of subjects.
Optical Performance and Aperture
These lenses feature T-stop ratings that measure the actual light transmission through the lens, ensuring consistent exposure across all focal lengths. While the 25/35/50/85 mm lenses have a maximum aperture of T1.9, allowing for a soft bokeh effect and beautiful background separation, the 14 mm lens has a T-stop aperture of T2.4.
The image circle diameter is an impressive 46 mm, making these lenses suitable for full-frame and even large-format sensors.
Mount Options and Image Quality
The entire series is available in ARRI PL, Canon RF, Sony E, Panasonic/Leica L, and Fuji G mounts. They offer exceptionally low chromatic aberration and micro-contrast control, delivering unparalleled image quality with fine image detail.
Focus Breathing Minimization
Athena Prime lenses are engineered to minimize focus breathing. This means that changes in the field of view when adjusting focus from minimum focus distance to infinity are very small, regardless of focal length or aperture setting.
Patented Rear Filter System
The Athena Prime series features a patented Drop-In filter mount system, providing greater flexibility and creative control for filmmakers.
- RF, L, and G-mount lenses include the Drop-In filter option.
- E-mount lenses are available in two versions: with and without Drop-In filter.
- PL-mount lenses use a rear filter.
Important Notes:
- Sony FX9 cameras cannot use E-mount lenses with Drop-In filters.
- To achieve infinity focus and sharp images, it is essential to use a transparent Drop-In filter for RF, L, G, and E mounts, and a rear filter for PL mount.
NiSi also offers weather protection for the Drop-In filter.
Uniform Weight and Handling
All NiSi Athena Prime lenses have similar weight, allowing for easy lens changes without rebalancing the gimbal. They all share a 77 mm filter thread size. The aperture and focus rings are standardized across the range.
Each lens features a 300° focus rotation and fluorescent focus scales marked in both imperial and metric units for precise focusing.
Compatibility and Accessories
Designed with both optical performance and usability in mind, the lenses have standard 0.8 mod focus and aperture gears, making them compatible with a wide range of follow focus and matte box systems.
Additionally, a NiSi 77 mm close-up lens is available separately to reduce minimum focus distance and create excellent macro effects.
