The NiSi Athena Prime Cine lenses cover a focal length range from 14 mm ultra-wide angle to 85 mm, including the 85 mm lens designed for portrait and telephoto applications. This range offers exceptional versatility for various shooting scenarios and subject types.
Optical Performance and Aperture
The lenses feature T-stop values that represent actual light transmission, ensuring consistent exposure. The 85 mm lens has a maximum aperture of T1.9, enabling soft bokeh effects and attractive background separation. The image circle diameter is 46 mm, suitable for full-frame and large-format sensors.
Mount Options and Image Quality
The Athena Prime series is available in multiple mounts including ARRI PL, Canon RF, Sony E, Panasonic/Leica L, and Fuji G mounts. The lenses deliver exceptionally low chromatic aberration and excellent micro-contrast control, producing fine image detail and superior image quality.
Focus Breathing Minimization
These lenses are engineered to minimize focus breathing, meaning the field of view changes very little when adjusting focus from minimum focus distance to infinity, regardless of focal length or aperture.
Patented Rear Filter System
The series features a Drop-In filter mount system for enhanced creative control. Fuji G-mount lenses include the Drop-In filter option. To maintain infinity focus and sharp images, a transparent Drop-In filter must be used with RF, L, G, and E mounts, while PL mount lenses use a rear filter. Weather protection is available for the Drop-In filter.
Consistency and Handling
All Athena Prime lenses have similar weight, allowing lens changes without rebalancing on gimbals. They share a 77 mm filter thread size, standardized aperture and focus rings, 300° focus rotation, and fluorescent focus scales marked in both imperial and metric units for precise focusing.
Compatibility and Accessories
The lenses feature standard 0.8 mod focus and aperture gears compatible with a wide range of follow focus and matte box systems. NiSi offers a 77 mm close-up lens (sold separately) to reduce minimum focus distance and enable macro effects.
