The NiSi Athena Prime Cine lenses offer a versatile focal length range from 14 mm ultra-wide angle to 85 mm, covering both ultra-wide and portrait focal lengths. This range makes them ideal for various shooting scenarios, allowing filmmakers to capture a wide variety of subjects with exceptional image quality.
Optical Performance
- All lenses feature T-stop values that measure actual light transmission, ensuring consistent exposure across all focal lengths.
- The 25 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, and 85 mm lenses have a maximum aperture of T1.9, enabling a soft bokeh effect for beautiful background separation.
- The 14 mm lens has a T2.4 aperture.
- These lenses have an impressive image circle diameter of 46 mm, making them suitable for full-frame and even large-format sensors.
- They provide exceptionally low chromatic aberration and micro-contrast control, delivering unparalleled image detail and quality.
Mount Options and Compatibility
The Athena Prime series is available in multiple mounts including ARRI PL, Canon RF, Sony E, Panasonic/Leica L, and Fuji G, offering broad compatibility with professional cinema cameras.
Focus and Aperture Control
- Designed to minimize focus breathing, the lenses maintain a stable field of view when adjusting focus from minimum focus distance to infinity.
- All lenses feature 300° focus rotation and fluorescent focus scales marked in both imperial and metric units for precise focusing.
- Standard 0.8 mod gears on focus and aperture rings ensure compatibility with a wide range of follow focus and matte box systems.
Innovative Rear Filter System
The Athena Prime lenses incorporate a patented Drop-In rear filter system, providing filmmakers with enhanced flexibility and creative control.
- RF, L, and G mount lenses include the Drop-In filter option.
- E-mount lenses are available in two versions: with and without Drop-In filters.
- PL-mount lenses use a rear filter system.
Important Notes:
- Sony FX9 cameras cannot use E-mount lenses with Drop-In filters.
- To achieve infinity focus and sharp images, it is essential to use a transparent Drop-In filter for RF, L, G, and E mounts, and a rear filter for PL mount.
NiSi also offers weather protection for the Drop-In filters.
Physical Characteristics and Handling
- All Athena Prime lenses have similar weights, allowing quick lens changes without rebalancing the gimbal.
- Except for the 14 mm lens, all lenses share a 77 mm filter thread size.
- Aperture and focus rings are standardized across the set for consistent operation.
